Boxing great Muhammad Ali and television star Ed Asner will lead a licensed
anti-embargo mission to Cuba next week, delivering about $20 million in
medicine
and medical supplies, an organizer said Thursday.
Ali visited Cuba two years ago on a similar mission, said Bob Schwartz
of the
Disarm Education Fund, a 20-year-old social justice group organized by
former U.S.
Attorney General Ramsey Clark. The Sept. 9-12 trip will be a first for
Asner.
The trip is co-sponsored by Direct Relief International, a private humanitarian
group.
Participants will tour a hospital cancer ward and a clinic, and meet with
Health
Ministry officials for a presentation on the impact of the U.S. embargo,
Schwartz
said.
