Cuban group's visit postponed
Herald Staff Report
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has delayed by at least a month an
upcoming
visit of Cuban restaurant owners and farmers, which it characterizes
as a first-ever
expedition from Cuba's emerging entrepreneurial class.
Chamber Vice President Craig Johnstone said a change in personnel
at the
Cuban Chamber of Commerce caused the delay for the trip, originally
slated for
October. At least half the delegates, he said, will represent
private entrepreneurs,
farmers and small restaurant owners, while the rest will be government
cafe
managers and agronomists.
The 10-day trip could be rescheduled for just before Thanksgiving.
The travelers
will visit U.S. agricultural programs, private culinary schools,
but will not stop in
Miami.
Johnstone declined to name the institutions that would host the
Cubans, saying
he had not gotten permission from their hosts to release the
information because
the itinerary was not set.
