Congressman: Renew some trade with Cuba
HAVANA -- (AP) -- A visiting Texas congressman called Tuesday
for renewed
agricultural trade between the United States and Cuba, saying
it was time to lift
the trade embargo on food and medicine sales to the communist
country.
``We need to develop trade relations,'' Nick Lampson said, after
meeting with the
Havana Port Authority to get a rundown on the nation's port facilities.
The
Beaumont Democrat met earlier with foreign commerce officials.
Lampson arrived in Cuba Monday afternoon with a group of rice
growers from the
Texas Farm Bureau who want to investigate business opportunities
on the island.
