Cuban official to leave his post in U.S.
BY NANCY SAN MARTIN
Fernando Remírez, Cuba's highest-ranking official in the United States, will leave his post as head of the Cuban Interests Section in Washington at the end of the month to return to Havana.
Remírez, one of the longest-serving chiefs of the interests
section, will remain with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a full-time
first deputy, placing him second in
command under Felipe Pérez Roque.
A replacement for Remírez has not yet been officially named.
But a top contender is Dagoberto Rodriguez, director of the North American
Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
