FLORENCE JUNCTION - A van overloaded with suspected illegal immigrants
overturned early yesterday, killing two people and seriously injuring two.
The van, designed to carry 12 to 15 people, was carrying as many as
25 when it blew a tire and rolled, said Bob Ticer, a spokesman for the
state Department of Public Safety.
Many of the passengers were ejected. The back seat of the van had been removed to make more room for passengers, and seat belts were not worn, he said.
All but one of the passengers was male. No small children were aboard, Ticer said. The rollover occurred on State Route 79 south of Florence Junction.
