Moderate earthquake rattles U.S.-Mexico border
MEXICALI, Mexico (AP) --A magnitude-5.2 earthquake rattled northern
Baja
California Saturday near the U.S. border, but there were no immediate
reports of
injury or damage.
The quake struck 54 miles southwest of Yuma, Arizona, in the Gulf of
California in
the Sonora region, said seismologist Egill Hauksson at the California
Institute of
Technology in Pasadena, California.
The quake rattled the densely populated city of Mexicali more than 50
miles west,
but no one was hurt, said Mexicali police Officer Ancel Sandoval.
"This one felt very strong," he added.
Residents from California cities more than 75 miles away from the epicenter
also felt
the quake, including in San Diego, El Cajon and Chula Vista.
