The "one face at the border" initiative planned by the federal Department
of Homeland Security is taking a final step toward unification today.
DHS officials in Tucson today will present the new Customs and Border
Protection badge. The badge is a final step in fully merging the agencies
formerly known as U.S. Customs, Immigration and Naturalization, the Animal
and Plant Health Inspection services, Customs and Border Protection, CBP
spokesman Roger Maier said.
"Everyone still has the old badges from the four agencies," Maier said yesterday. "Now there's going to be one badge."
The U.S. Border Patrol is also part of CBP but will retain its identity because its focus is between the ports of entry, Border Patrol spokesman Andy Adame said.
