BOGOTA -- The commander of the rebel unit that kidnapped three
U.S.
Indian-rights activists slain in March was among at least two
dozen guerrillas
killed in an army ambush, authorities said Thursday.
Still at large, were the rebel superiors who ordered the killings,
U.S. and
Colombian officials said.
Napoleon Carreno, alias Comandante Rogelio, led the guerrilla
cadre that
abducted Terence Freitas, 24, Ingrid Washinawatok, 41, and Lahe'ena'e
Gay, 39,
on Feb. 25 as they were leaving the U'wa Indian reserve.
