Miami Beach police arrested the brother of Miami City Manager Cesar Odio on charges of drunk driving and drug possession Friday morning.
Javier Alvaro Odio, 42, was stopped in the 700 block of Fifth Street
about 4:45 a.m. after Sgt. Jerry Millican saw his car weaving between lanes
and driving in circles.
When Odio got out of the car, he was unsteady, Millican wrote. He kept
saying to call his brother and "Lt. Barreto," likely referring to Beach
Chief Richard Barreto.
Millican noticed what appeared to be cocaine on Odio's face. "There was a white streak of powder substance just below Odio's nose," he wrote. More cocaine was found in his pockets, the officer said.
Javier Odio, director at Tropical Development Corp., could not be reached for comment Friday. Cesar Odio Jr., the city manager's son, said the family would try to help his uncle.
"Our family is very strong, and we are not going to turn our back on him," he said. "We have to help him so this doesn't happen again."
Javier Odio was charged Friday with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a driver's license restriction. According to records, he can drive for "business purposes only."
