Castro Aide is Seen Linking Cuba Rebels
Special to The New York Times.
HAVANA, Oct. 1--Dr. Che Guevara, the Argentine aide to Fidel Castro, who led a column of rebels westward from Castro headquarters in the Sierra Maestra of Oriente Province, has made contact with rebels in Las Villas Province, according to information received in Havana today.
Senor Castro, as rebel leader, is reported to have sent Dr. Guevara to take command of the groups in the Cambray mountains of Las Villas because of differences of opinion among the leaders there.
The Revolutionary Directorate of Havana university students and other youthful enemies of President Fulgencio Batista opened a so-called second front in Las Villas, a central province, several months ago. Senor Castro is known to have been seeking to link all the rebel groups in a single command.
British airplane sales to the Government of President Fulgencio Batista were protested yesterday by sixteen pickets of the Authentic Organization of New York, affiliated with the Cuban Opposition.
For an hour they marched outside 99 Park Avenue, where the British Consulate General has its office. One typical sign charged "England Helps the Communists by Helping the Batista Dictatorship."
