Bombs Mark Anniversary of Student Slaying

HAVANA, Sept. 30--At least eight bombs exploded in Havana and its suburbs tonight.
One explosion broke a Havana water main, flooding the neighborhood. Censorship shrouded details on the number of other blasts and the damage caused.
At suburban Cotorro residents reported machine gun and rifle fire. However, no official information was available.
Today is the anniversary of the death of Rafael Trejo, a student leader at Havana University in the Nineteen Thirties who was slain by Government forces. Cuban students have traditionally observed the anniversary with violence in periods of political stress.
Army headquarters here said today that Lieut. Col. Nelson Carrasco y
Artiles, chief of an army battalion in a mountainous district of Oriente
Province had been wounded and kidnapped by rebels. Twelve rebels were killed
or wounded, the army said.
