SAN VICENTE DEL CAGUAN, Colombia -- (EFE) -- The Colombian
government and FARC guerrillas agreed Monday to suspend until April their
peace negotiations, as well as talks on a possible prisoner exchange.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) issued a three-month
deadline for the government to demonstrate its willingness to dismantle
the
paramilitary forces operating in the country, and presented a list of police
and army
officials, members of Congress and politicians that it alleges support
the militia
groups.
The peace talks, which began Jan. 7, were suspended until April 20. Talks
on the
exchange of imprisoned guerrillas for captured soldiers and policemen were
put off
until April 26.
The rebel list of alleged collaborators with the rightist vigilantes, who
often act as
death-squads, includes 10 army generals, five members of congress, one
governor, two ex-governors and two former Cabinet ministers. Also on the
list is
police Maj. Royne Chavez, head of presidential security.
