Ninoska Perez Castellon, a spokeswoman for the Cuban American National Foundation, on Saturday scoffed at a New York Times report that quoted Cuban exile Luis Posada Carriles as saying he obtained support from members of the foundation for his violent anti-Castro activities.
``It's the same thing the Cuban government says. How convenient,'' she said.
She faxed the following statement to The Herald:
``Any allegation, implication or suggestion that members of the Cuban American National Foundation have financed any `alleged acts of violence' against the Castro regime are totally and patently false.
``For the record, neither Larry Rohter, Anne Louise Bardach, nor The New York Times possess even a shred of credibility on the subject of our organization or the issue of Cuba in general.
``These latest malicious allegations -- which echo those made earlier by Cuban dictator Fidel Castro -- are simply part of the longstanding and systematic smear campaign against the Cuban American National Foundation designed to try and discredit Cuba's democratic opposition in exile.''
