HAVANA—(AP)—Cuban sources said Saturday a Cuban woman tried to smuggle a pistol into the solitary confinement cell of William A. Morgan, adventurer from Toledo, Ohio.
They did not identify the woman but said guards at La Cabana Fortress discovered the weapon and detained her.
Morgan, 31, was once a major in Castro’s revolutionary forces.
He was arrested in October on suspicion of aiding anti-Castro insurgents.
The American had once been hailed as a hero of the revolution and had married a Cuban woman after the United States canceled his citizenship because of his war service on Castro’s side.
