William A. Morgan, former Toledoan who attained the rank of major in the rebel army of Fidel Castro in Cuba, will speak at the Sports Arena March 8 at 9 p.m.
He is now serving as an adviser to Mr. Castro and will tour the U.S. under a diplomatic passport, according to Jack LaRue, 111 18th St., a friend of Mr. Morgan. Mr. LaRue is in charge of the local program.
He said Toledo will be the first stop for Mr. Morgan and about 30 Cubans, including several women who took part in the Castro revolution.
The group seeks to raise funds for farmers residing in war-damaged Las Villas province, in which Major Morgan led a band of 5,000 guerillas known as the “Tigers of the Espesmura,” and to tell Mr. Castro’s side of the story to the American People.
