Indianapolis
Mayor Bart Peterson has appointed nine new members to his Commission on
Latino Affairs, which works to increase Latino involvement in city government
and
make city services more accessible to residents.
New members are Silvia Alba, Indianapolis Fire Department; Gloria
Berlanga-King, The Hispanic Center; Pastor Nicolas Extrella, Metodista
Libre
Church; Margarita Gayosso, Information and Referral Network; Martin George,
Language Training Center; Manuel Gonzales, Indiana Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce; Rafael Mendez, Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library; Cynthia
Perez, Mexican Alliance of Indianapolis; and Nora Ramirez, community advocate
and Latina liaison, Indianapolis Public Schools.
Peterson also reappointed Maria Quiroz-Southwood of Wishard Health
Services/Westside Health Center as co-chair of the commission. Ricardo
Gambetta,
the mayor's director of Latino affairs, serves as executive director.
Other members include: Marlene Arellano, Martha Carvajal, Roberto Curci,
Bettye Dobkins, Karen Celestino Horseman; Anita Owens, Luis Parodi, Janai
Roberts and Claudio Trincado.
