Haitian president to meet with Castro in Cuba
PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) - Haitian President Rene Preval will travel to
Cuba Monday to meet with Cuban President Fidel Castro, government
officials said Thursday.
Preval's seven-day visit to Cuba is intended to strengthen cooperation
between the two countries.
Castro had invited Preval to visit Cuba when the two leaders met in the
Dominican Republic during a meeting of Caribbean heads of state in August.
Among the topics the two presidents will discuss are health, agriculture,
tourism, sports and cultural exchanges.
Haiti and Cuba renewed diplomatic relations in February 1996, just before
Preval assumed office.
