Mrs. Quintero Dies at Age of Ninety

Husband and Sons Were on Staff of Old Picayune

Mrs. Joseph Quintero, member of a distinguished Louisiana family and among the oldest residents of New Orleans, died yesterday morning at her residence, 2310 Dublin Street, after a brief illness. Mrs. Quintero was ninety years old. She appeared to be in good health early yesterday morning, but toward 8 o'clock complained of feeling unwell. She died a few minutes later. Many relatives and friends of the family came yesterday to the residence to pay their last respects.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. today at the residence and the Mater Dolorosa Church in Carollton avenue. Internment will be in the family tomb at the Metairie cemetery.

Mrs. Quintero was Miss Eliza Bournos, a daughter of Joseph Tozia Bournos, who came to New Orleans from France nearly a century ago. Mr. Bournos was a French professor and conducted a select school for young Creole ladies at Canal and North Rampart streets.

Mrs. Quintero was a native of New Orleans. When she was 24 years old she married Joseph Quintero of New Orleans, for many years connected with the editorial staff of the Daily Picayune. Her sons, J. M. Quintero, well known New Orleans attorney, and Lamar Quintero, who died some time ago, were also connected with the newspaper for many years.

Mrs. Quintero was a delightful conversationalist, her memories going back many years to the days when the city limits were from Howard to Esplanade avenues and from the river to South Claiborne avenue. She numbered many friends among old families in New Orleans and Louisiana.

She is survived by her son, J. Marshall Quintero, who resided with her at the Dublin street home; and one niece and six nephews.
