WHAT: Carlos M. Gutierrez, chairman and CEO of Kellogg
Company will deliver a speech entitled 'Challenging Assumptions' at The
Economic Club of Chicago's annual dinner meeting. Mr. Gutierrez will discuss
a wide range of topics including the renewal of Kellogg, globalization,
international outsourcing, the health care crises and the diet debates.
WHO: At 45, Cuban immigrant Gutierrez became the
youngest CEO in Kellogg's history. Making bold moves, Gutierrez led the
development and execution of a new business model at Kellogg that has revitalized
the company's growth and profits. He also diversified Kellogg's brands,
acquiring Keebler Foods and Kashi. These investments resulted in consistently
profitable sales performance by a formerly troubled cereal company. Born
in Havana to a pineapple plantation owner, Gutierrez and his family fled
Cuba shortly after Fidel Castro came into power. Gutierrez's family arrived
first in Florida then settled in Mexico, where Gutierrez would study business
administration, meet his future wife and accept his first job with Kellogg
Company as a sales representative.
