Paramilitaries Demand Pay for War Efforts
SAN SALVADOR -- Hundreds of ex-paramilitaries barricaded for a
second day a
government complex Tuesday, demanding state compensation for
their help in
ending the country's 12-year civil war in 1992.
The ex-paramilitaries were among 20,000 men who helped fight leftist
rebels
during the civil war. They were not included as beneficiaries
in the peace accords
that ended the conflict.
The protest was to renew demands for compensation of $1,724 each.
