Reno, Chapman win Ellis Island Medal of Honor
U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno and Alvah H. Chapman Jr., former
chairman of
Knight Ridder and current chairman of the Community Partnership
for Homeless,
are among the professionals who will receive the Ellis Island
Medal of Honor this
weekend in New York.
The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, established in
1986, will pay
tribute to Reno, Chapman and others like New York Yankees manager
Joe Torre.
The medal will be presented at an annual gala reception Saturday
at Ellis Island.
NECO serves as a parent group for 451 ethnic organizations representing
five
million people who help preserve ethnic diversity and religious
equality.
