HAVANA, June 3 – Army headquarters denied today reports that the Cuban Air Force had bombed Sierra Maestra, where troops were seeking to kill or capture Fidel Castro, rebel leader, and his forces.
Maj. Policarpo Chaviano, chief of the Army Press bureau, said that “up to the moment there has been no bombing in any place in Oriente Province.” The Army has no planes to utilize explosive incendiary bombs or napalm, he explained.
Major Chaviano went on to say that troops were on the trail of the rebels and were following them into the mountains.
Meanwhile, the bullet-riddled body of Antonio Cornejo Acosta, secretary of the Wood Workers Union was found on the outskirts of Havana.
