HAVANA, May 22 – A small quantity of arms has disappeared from a warehouse in the United States naval base of Guantanamo, according to the United States Embassy here.
The arms were to be sent back to the United States as surplus, the embassy said. Cuban authorities in Guantanamo are assisting in an investigation to determine whether the arms have left the base and to apprehend those responsible, the embassy said.
In other developments, six bombs exploded last night in Santiago de Cuba, center of political violence against the Government. Four of the explosions occurred at schools, causing some damage but no injuries.
Two suburban Havana high schools were damaged tonight by bomb blasts. No injuries were reported.
Gustavo Marin, student leader and member of the Nationalist Revolutionary party opposing the Government, has taken refuge in the Honduran Embassy.
The Government appointed tonight a military supervisor to take control of the Cuban Electric Company because of labor difficulties.
Lieut. Col. José Figuerola, president of the Red Cross, was designated to supervise operations of the company as delegate of President Fulgencio Batista.
