Cuban Elevator Plunge Kills One

          By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

HAVANA (AP) -- An elevator in one of Havana's tallest buildings
plunged out of control Friday, killing one person and injuring at least
          three, police said.

The accident occurred at the 28-story Focsa building, which was built
before the 1959 Cuban revolution, is one of the better known structures
in Havana. There was no immediate word on what caused the elevator to
          fall.

After the communist government took power, the building became home
to many of the Soviet technicians and other workers who lived in Cuba.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union a decade ago, it has housed
apartments and offices for various foreign news organizations, and
          cultural organizations.
