FLNC claims new blast
By Hilda Inclan
The National Cuban Liberation Front has claimed responsibility for another explosion at a Castro Cuban facility on foreign soil.
The FLNC - through its spokesman, "Ignacio" - telephoned the Miami News yesterday to claim it had placed a homemade bomb within the fenced-in Cuban Consulate grounds in Kingston, Jamaica.
Kingston police confirmed that there was an explosion at 4:15 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Ignacio, his face covered by a blue pillowcase, met with a Miami News reporter several days ago to outline FLNC strategy against Castroites outside Cuba, and action inside Cuba.
One week later, two alleged members of the terrorist group, Luis Crespo and Humberto Lopez, were maimed when a bomb they were allegedly placing in a hollowed-out book exploded.
Crespo was in critical condition, and Lopez fair, at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The FLNC, which claims between 60 to 100 members, has taken responsibility for the bombing of embassies in Mexico and Chile, the explosion which sank a Bahamian ship in the Miami River last New Year's Eve - and the Sunday bmobing at the offices of Cubana de Aviacion, the Cuban airlines office in Mexico City.
In his call to the Miami News, after the explosion in Jamaica, Ignacio said the FLNC's tactics "will change from now on, but we will continue the war against Castro."
He refused to elaborate on what the new tactics will be.
Reached at the consulate in Kingston this morning, Cuban consul Ramon Pesferm refused to comment on the explosion.
